Details of 2014 Toyota Tundra Shared by Toyota of Concord

2012 Toyota Tundra

Toyota of Concord is excited to share details of the 2014 Toyota Tundra, revealed at last week’s Chicago Auto Show.

The 2014 Toyota Tundra will be available in five trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition. Cab styles will include the Regular Cab with two doors, the Double Cab with four doors, and the CrewMax with four doors. All cab styles are available as 4x2 or 4x4 models. Engine options include a 4.0L V6, 4.6L V8, and 5.7L V8.

The new Toyota Tundra gets a more industrial look by integrating the hood with the taller, bolder chrome grille, and squaring off the fenders and wheel wells to give the truck a wider stance. The new exterior design continues to the bed, with a deck spoiler and a stamped “Tundra” badge on the tailgate. Both the front and rear bumpers are now composed of three pieces to lower replacement costs.

Inside the 2014 Tundra, every truck gets a new instrument panel, more comfortable seats and improved ventilation. Many other improvements are trim-specific and include premium surface treatments, new leather options, bold contrasting fabrics, chrome accents, and upgraded audio and infotainment options.

Follow Toyota of Concord on Facebook to get all the latest news on the 2014 Toyota Tundra, and stop by our Toyota dealership near Charlotte to see the current line of Toyota cars, trucks, and SUVs. Our helpful staff is happy to explain all the options and help you find the perfect new car!

Toyota Prius Named Best Commuter Car by Forbes

Toyota Prius, on Forbes list of best commuter cars

Forbes recently compiled a list of the Best Cars for Commuters for 2013, and Toyota of Concord is proud, but not at all surprised, to announce that the Toyota Prius scored high marks.

Forbes broke their list down into five categories: short commute, long commute, carpool, winter commute and summer commute. They also narrowed the pool of cars by selecting those from the list of Recommended Cars by Consumer Reports and those that scored well in Consumer Union reliability and crash tests. Finally, they examined fuel economy, capacity, and range.

The Toyota Prius was a winner in the Long Commute category, the category in which fuel efficiency played a starring role. According to TrueCar.com editor Brandy Shaffels, commuters “traveling longer distances may be focused on saving money with a car that gets better mileage or, considering the amount of time they spend in their cars, they might prefer to sacrifice some miles per gallon for more comfort.”

The Toyota Prius rises to the challenge, offering fuel economy of 51 city/48 highway/50 combined mpg and almost 600 miles between fuel stops. Forbes said this is a great asset because it cuts the time needed for filling up out of the commuting time, and it could allow drivers to save money on the fuel they do buy by allowing them greater flexibility in shopping around for the lowest gas prices.

More commuting advice from the Aaron Gold in the About.com Guide to Cars advised drivers that “if you mostly commute solo or with one other person, avoid big vehicles like SUVs and minivans — you’re wasting a lot of fuel hauling around all that steel and empty space. Best to commute in something smaller and save the big car for family trips.”

If you are in the market for a new commuter car, Toyota of Concord is happy to help you explore the Forbes favorite Toyota Prius. Check out what we have to offer online, call our sales team at 704-979-7700 with any questions, or stop by our Toyota dealership near Charlotte for a test drive. We look forward to seeing you!

Toyota Avalon in Running to Replace Lincoln Town Car

2013 Toyota Avalon

As the limousine industry bids farewell to the Lincoln Town Car, many other cars, including the Toyota Avalon, are in line to get a piece of the livery market.

Gary Kessler, CEO of Cary International, the world’s largest livery company, recently addressed the issue with the Detroit News. “We’re clearly at a watershed event. There isn’t a clear replacement for the Town Car. But the more people who are in this space, the more that is going to raise the bar on the vehicles from which we can choose.”

Carey said that more than 85% of his fleet is still represented by the Town Car, but as older models are phased out, a new option will have to be available to take their place. Carey has done much research into what should come next, and Toyota believes the 2013 Avalon has what it takes.

While the Toyota Avalon has never entered the livery market in the United States, it has long been a leader of the class in Japan. In an effort to secure a spot in the emerging American market, Toyota has developed a new livery edition of the Avalon. The all-black Avalon has leather interior, rear climate controls, and heated rear seats, among other amenities.

Bill Fay, head of Toyota Motor Sales USA, said, “The vehicle seems to really fit in with what the livery people want and need. It’s kind of a new opportunity for us. We’re kind of almost sticking our toe in the water here.”

Check out the luxury of the new Toyota Avalon for yourself at Toyota of Concord near Charlotte. Our sales team is ready to answer any questions you have about the Avalon and its many features, as well as pricing and availability. We invite you to browse our inventory online, visit our Charlotte area Toyota dealership in person, or call 704-979-7700 for assistance.

Thank you for a great 2012, and we look forward to serving you in 2013!

Toyota Prius Among Most-Searched Cars of 2012

2012 Toyota Prius

Car buyers walk into dealerships equipped with more knowledge and information than ever before, thanks to online reviews and resources. This is especially true for Toyota Prius buyers, since the car was number 2 in the most-searched vehicles of 2012 on Autoweek.com.

Autoweek.com editors said the Toyota Prius “continues to be one of the best hybrids on the market, thanks to the automaker’s experience and continuous improvements to the car.”  They also praised its spacious interior, unexpected in a car of such small stature.

The 2012 Prius has a 1.8L engine and an electric motor that work together to produce excellent fuel economy, at 51/48 city/highway mpg. The hybrid powertrain is paired with an automatic continuously variable transmission.

Other standout features of the Toyota Prius include a digital information center with an energy monitor, distance-to-empty estimate, and current fuel economy. There is also an available navigation package that includes DVD navigation, backup camera, XM satellite radio with NavTraffic, and an eight-speaker audio system. The 2013 Toyota Prius is also a Top Safety Pick of the IIHS.

Continue to research the Toyota Prius on the Toyota of Concord web site, or call our Charlotte area dealership at 704-979-7700 with any questions for our knowledgeable sales team. We also invite you to visit us for a test drive to experience everything the Prius family has to offer.

Toyota Venza, Prius V Offer Most Space for Stuff

2012 Toyota Venza - class-leading cargo capacity

‘Tis the season for jingle bells, snowmen, and stuffing your car with a load of loot that makes Santa ashamed of the hauling capacity of his sleigh. Edmunds.com recently studied the versatile segment of wagons and hatchbacks to determine which offered the most cargo room to deliver the goods to all the nice boys and girls on your list.

Hatchbacks and wagons were chosen because they can accommodate packages of widely varying shapes and sizes. The also offer easy loading and unloading through wide openings and lower floors than most trucks and SUVs, as well as being easier to park and maneuver in crowded mall parking lots.

Rankings were determined by the available cargo space, measured in cubic feet, when all seats were in position. Confirming our opinion that a new Toyota should be at the top of all Christmas lists, Toyota cars claimed two of the top ten spots.

The 2012 Toyota Prius V tied for first place, with 34.3 cubic feet of cargo space. In addition to its hauling abilities, Edmunds.com reviews also praised the 2012 Prius V for its excellent fuel efficiency of 44/40 city/highway mpg. It also offers increased passenger room when compared to the standard Toyota Prius. The 2012 Prius V received the highest possible ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as well.

Number five on the list is the 2012 Toyota Venza, offering cargo space that measures 30.7 cubic feet. According to Emdumds.com, the 2012 Venza “avoids the apparent arrogance of an SUV, the stigma of a minivan and the ambivalence of a crossover; it simply works.” The Venza is equipped with many design features that maximize its interior space and offers many other trim-specific options. The 2012 Venza is available with a four-cylinder or V6 engine and offers front-wheel or all-wheel drive options.

For more information, or to test drive the Prius V, the Venza, or any other Toyota model you’d like to see wearing a big red bow in your driveway, visit Toyota Scion of Concord near Charlotte or call 704-979-7700. Our sales team and finance department are busy little elves, working to make sure everyone is happy on Christmas morning.

2012 Toyota 4Runner

Kelley Blue Book called the 4Runner "the automotive equivalent of the tuxedo t-shirt" for its versatility as an off-road utility vehicle and an always-ready party machine. With an available sliding rear cargo deck and “Party Mode” sound equalizer that channels music to the liftgate speakers, the designers of the Toyota 4Runner definitely had tailgating in mind.

Other KBB favorite features include the rear window in the liftgate, allowing access in close quarters like a garage or tight parking space. The 40/20/40 split seat offers a multitude of cargo/seating arrangements and even reclines for maximum comfort. There is an optional third row available to expand the seating capacity to seven passengers.

Graduate and Get Money Back on Selected Toyota and Scion Models

Toyota Scion of Concord is happy to announce that Toyota Financial Services and Toyota Motor sales have added the Prius c to the list of eligible vehicles in the College Grad Rebate Program.

The Prius c is the first hybrid option available in the program, which seeks to reward the hard work of recent college graduates and make the transition to the workforce smoother by offering $1000 new car rebates on any new Scion and select new Toyota models. Before the addition of the Prius c, eligible Toyotas included the Camry, Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, Tacoma, and Yaris.

According to Mike Groff, TFS Group Vice President of Sales, Product and Marketing, “The Prius c is taking off as one of the most popular vehicles among young adults, but more than that, it is a dependable and economical way for recent graduates to get to new jobs and start their careers. We hope this $1,000 rebate, which can be coupled with other incentives, helps make the dream of car ownership a little easier.”

The Toyota Prius family was recently named “Best Green Car to Buy 2012” by GreenCarReports.com. The letter “c” in the Prius c name stands for “city”, as it was developed to be an urban-friendly car. With its accessible price, fuel economy rating of 53 city mpg, and plentiful electronic features, the Prius c is the ideal car for the recent college grad.

To qualify for the $1000 rebate, buyers must meet certain degree and graduation requirements. These include, but are not limited to, graduating from a qualified institution (four-year college, university, registered nursing program, accredited graduate degree program, Toyota Technical Education Network, or approved automotive or electrical program) within the last two years, or in some cases, on track to graduate within the next six months.

Buyers will also show proof of present employment or a contract for future employment to begin within 120 days of purchase contract. Toyota Financial Services will determine sufficient income and credit history and will approve qualified applicants.

The College Rebate Program for Toyota vehicles ends January 2, 2013. The finance department at Toyota Scion of Concord near Charlotte will be happy to answer any questions about the program, and our expert sales staff will help you schedule a test drive of the Toyota Prius c or any other model that better suits your needs.

Scion FR-S One of Summer’s Hottest Cars

2013 Scion FR-S

In the years of the economic decline between 2008 and 2010, sales of small sports cars dropped by an average of 50% across the board. The Scion FR-S is staging a comeback for the segment as it becomes one of the fastest-selling cars of the season.

Marketed to buyers in the 20-30 age bracket, the Scion FR-S strives to deliver a fun driving experience, and was inspired by the Porsche Cayman. Both cars use “boxer” engines that achieve a lower center of gravity by orienting the pistons horizontally. At about half the price of the Cayman, the FR-S pushes 200 horsepower compared to the Cayman’s 265, and has a top speed of 137 mph and a zero-60 mph time of 6.2 seconds compared to the Caymans’ 5.5 seconds.

Many automakers are using flashy new sports cars as ways to bring attention to the rest of a model lineup, but sales of the FR-S indicate it is more than just an attention-getter. According to Edmunds.com, the Scion FR-S sits on dealer lots for only 11 days before sale, where the industry average is 57 days. This makes it one of the two fastest-selling cars that have been on the market for more than 2 months, and honor shared with the Subaru BRZ, which was developed on the same platform.

The Scion FR-S is described by Motor Trend reviewers as having “driving dynamics that are some of the best we’ve experienced, combined with an affordable price”, and Autoweek gave a simple endorsement of “Yes, you want it.” To decide for yourself, visit Toyota Scion of Concord for a test drive today. We have a full Toyota and Scion inventory, as well as many other quality used cars to choose from, conveniently located near Charlotte, NC.

Matthews NC Adult Daycare Winner in Toyota 100 Cars For Good

Toyota of Concord congratulates Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care, another Charlotte area winner in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good contest.

Blessed Assurance is a not-for-profit organization that cares for elderly or disabled adults who do not need 24-hour residential care, but cannot safely be left alone during the day. They provide skilled nursing care and health education, licensed rehabilitation services, recreational therapy, meals and nutritional counseling, family support groups, and the services of medical social workers. When necessary, they monitor health and hygiene needs, including bathing, grooming, blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring, medication administration, and many other specific needs.

The program benefits adults who are physically or cognitively impaired or otherwise need help to function independently in the community. The program helps such adults maintain a level of independence outside a nursing home, but still safely supervised. Blessed Assurance offers a community setting with social activities and peer support in a stimulating environment that helps to maintain cognitive function and prevent social isolation. It allows caregivers to work or otherwise leave the home during the day, lifting an economic and social burden for them as well.

For the contest, Toyota accepts thousands of applications from across the county, explaining who they serve, how they help, and how the organization would use a new vehicle. Qualifying groups include those who improve society through education, health and safety, animal welfare, and social services. Applications are reviewed by a judging panel of independent experts in philanthropy and service to narrow the list of organizations down to 500 finalists.

Final winners are chosen by public vote, so finalists work to raise awareness about the services they provide and how the community would benefit if they won a new vehicle from 100 Cars for Good. Each day for 100 days, five groups go up for vote, and one is announced as the winner of their choice of a new Toyota Highlander, Tundra, Camry Hybrid, Prius V or Sienna.

Toyota of Concord happily congratulates Blessed Assurance Adult Day Care on their well-deserved win in 100 Cars for Good, and encourages the community to support their efforts in any way you can.

Forbes Honors 2012 Toyota RAV4, Matrix as Best Compact Crossover SUVs

2012 Toyota RAV4

Ever-increasing fuel prices and concern for the environment have pushed the ubiquitous minivan and lumbering SUVs to the back of the line, behind the smaller, cushier crossover SUV. Forbes studied this shift, then released a list of top ten compact crossover SUVs, featuring both the 2012 Toyota Matrix and Rav4 as winners.
Compact crossover SUVs combine the passenger and cargo capabilities of an SUV with the fuel economy and style of a car. They are different from larger SUVs because instead of being built on a truck platform, they typically ride on car-like chassis. More than 58 models are classified as compact crossovers, so landing two Toyota models in the top ten is no small feat. The list was compiled by Forbes using Total Car Score data.
Forbes gives the RAV4 credit for pioneering the crossover movement. Even with a redesign on the horizon, the RAV4 has still held up well to up-and-coming competitors. Working it its favor are the distinctions of an available V6 engine and 7-passenger capacity. Fuel economy averages 24 mpg combined city/highway with the four-cylinder engine and 24 combined mpg for the V6. The MSRP ranges from $22,650 to $28,650, depending on selected trim levels and options. The Total Car Score for the 2012 Toyota RAV4 is 79.71, in an average class score of 74.43.
Forbes seemed skeptical that the 2012 Toyota Matrix was actually a crossover, attributing the classification to the fold-flat rear seats. The Matrix is a hatchback based on the Corolla platform, and is available with all-wheel drive. It has two available four-cylinder engine options, which return either 24 or 28 combined city/highway mpg for fuel economy. Various trim levels and options put the MSRP between $18,845 and $21,715. The Total Car Score for the 2012 Toyota Matrix is 74.89.
To experience the 2012 Toyota Matrix, RAV4, or any other Toyota that might suit your driving needs, visit Toyota Scion of Concord online or in person near Charlotte, North Carolina. Follow on Facebook and Twitter for the latest news and updates on your favorite Toyota vehicle.

Charlotte Children’s Charity Winner in Toyota 100 Cars For Good

Toyota of Concord congratulates A Child’s Place of Charlotte, one of the latest winners announced in the Toyota 100 Cars for Good contest.

For the contest, Toyota accepts applications from thousands of nonprofits around the county, explaining who and how they help and why they are deserving of the prize. Organizations include those who improve society through animal welfare, health & safety, education, and services to children, adults, and people with disabilities. 100 Cars for Good applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel of experts in philanthropy and service to narrow the selections down to 500 organizations.

Final decisions are made by public vote, so finalists work hard to rally support and raise awareness about their organizations and how a new vehicle from 100 Cars for Good would help them serve their community. Each day for 100 days, five groups go up for vote, and one is announced as the winner of their choice of a new Toyota Highlander, Tundra, Camry Hybrid, Prius V or Sienna.

A Child’s Place (ACP) in Charlotte, NC is a group that works to erase the impact of homelessness on children and their education. According to ACP, homeless children were once unable to attend public schools because they had no home address. Homeless children are sick four times as often as other children, are usually two to three grade levels behind other children, and experience behavioral and emotional problems three times more than their peers. The national graduation rate for homeless children is below 25%.

ACP works with the homeless population of Charlotte to minimize the immediate effects of homelessness on individuals while providing the stability and education needed to break the future cycle. These services are provided free to recipients, and are completely privately funded, with no federal, state or local tax dollars.

Just a few of the services provided to students include counseling sessions with students and teachers to evaluate progress, school supplies, backpacks, field trip funds, and clothing or uniforms to wear to school. They are also provided with daily or weekly snack packs so they have food outside of the breakfast and lunch each school provides. They also provide counseling services and community resources for food, housing and job training for parents.

It costs ACP $695 per year to serve a homeless child, while the same child would cost $62,000 to be in the juvenile justice system, or $39,000 to be incarcerated or provided with substance abuse treatment or government assistance as an adult. Toyota of Concord is proud to be involved with a company dedicated to giving back. We happily congratulate A Child’s Place on their well-deserved win in 100 Cars for Good, and encourage the community to support their efforts in any way you can.

Jimmie Murphey's Christmas Dinner Donations

Jimmy Murphey's tattered 40-year-old, four-bedroom house is more of a warehouse for the needy than a real home for him. In the living room, stacks of canned goods cover nearly the entire floor and rise almost to the ceiling. Two bedrooms, including Murphey’s overflow with toys and canned goods up to a visitor's shoulders. Two industrial-sized freezers stuffed with meat take up most of the floor space in another room.

Murphey, a 77-year-old man with a beneficent smile, buys the food on sale throughout the year and stores it for his annual Christmas dinner and toy giveaways that he has organized for more than three decades. Each year, Murphey distributes about 11,000 meals and hundreds of toys to the needy with the help of donations of time and money from friends, local business people and other individuals. Last Christmas, Murphey and his army of 500 volunteer cooks and drivers gave away meals in seven towns. Murphey spent much of Christmas day in his own kitchen cooking meals for more than 1,200 people who formed lines more than three blocks long outside his home to get a holiday dinner.

Although Christmas is by far Murphey's biggest food giveaway day, he hands out meals throughout the year to the needy. Murphey has passed out free meals to the poor since he was a child. It all started in the 1930s, after Murphey's mother fell on hard times and asked the local social services agency for help. The agency turned her down. After she got back on her feet financially, Murphey's mom made a vow. "Mom said, 'Whoever knocks on this door will share what we have even if we are as dirt poor as the people asking. We won't deny anyone,'" says Murphey. His mom organized annual Christmas dinner giveaways and Murphey took charge of the event after she died in 1968.

By the 1980s, Murphey was serving several hundred people. The number grew to thousands by the 1990s as word-of-mouth and media stories spread news of his good works. Contributions also grew. Now, local politicians contribute food, money and supplies. Business people donate cash and help cook and serve food along with volunteers of all races and nationalities. School children collect canned goods to give to Murphey. Bojangles Restaurants donates food. Murphey's home offers precious little living space for him because nearly all of it is taken up by food and toys. But that's the way he wants it. Murphey is too selfless to ask for a home makeover. But if he did, he would likely want additional storage space and shelves to store more food and toys, and a bigger kitchen to prepare more food for more people. Sitting on his couch between boxes of toys Murphey says, "I wish I could do even more."

Murphey would not want to marvel at a spacious new house that he can enjoy. He would take pleasure in having a home built to serve others.

Help this true angel to touch more people.
